Rosina comes a rural community, which have no safe water source or electricity. Considering all the chores Rosina had to perform as a girl at home, it is very impressive that Rosina made it to secondary school. With six brothers and sisters, and parents who work on a farm in order to get food for the family to survive, finding the fees to pay for school was going to be a challenge to say the least.

However, Rosina was determined. As soon as junior high school was finished, she began working from sun up until sundown as a labourer on someone’s farm. The work wasn’t easy, but she had to find a way to make money if she was going to make it to school. After four months of labouring this way, with some small contributions from her parents, Rosina had just saved enough for her fees. Without any school supplies or even a mattress to sleep on, Rosina embarked to NOBISCO to begin secondary school.

She took a public mini-bus to travel to Tamale where her school was located. Sadly, armed robbers attacked the vehicle she was in, and stole all the money she had saved for school.

Rosina’s sad story is just one of so many sad stories we are faced with everyday. What we continue to note however, is the amount of determination we find within each girl when it comes to furthering her education. We hope that through the year we will be able to show the world these stories, to inspire those around us to get involved and to stand up for girls like Rosina.
