The Story of this Project...

The Gbalahi water project is now underway, and will soon be completed in order to provide Gbalahi residents with a clean, safe, water source that runs all year round.

Most women in Gbalahi spend over 6 hours a day fetching water since the dam they fetch from is located several kilometers away from their community. Women walk at least ten times to the dam and back in order to ensure their families can meet their daily water needs. The water they are fetching isn’t even clean, and is largely responsible for the poor level of health that the community experiences.

Creating Change Ghana collaborated with Ghana Water Company and Gbalahi community members in order to install the pipes throughout the community and connect it to the main water system that services the town of Tamale. The community members supplied all the manual labour, digging through the community in order for the pipes to be installed. It was the Ghana Water Company, who connected the pipes to the main water line.

Tragically, the Ghana Water company employee responsible for the piping installation passed away to a sickness. The project has therefore been temporarily delayed as Creating Change Ghana awaits Ghana Water Company to assign another staff member to complete the project.

Our hope is that the project will be completed by the end of September, which will ample time before the dry season starts and water becomes scarce. We will keep you updated on the project's progress, and can't wait to show you the wonderful impact it is going to have for all 1240 people living in Gbalahi.
