The Story of this Project...

"What we have to tell others is, to let us be serious, and to have something in mind that, what the male can do, we the ladies can also do as well." -Nasiba, Sponsored student

Undoubtedly, for the Create Change Team, taking on an extra 150 students was no easy task. However, to listen to girls stories about how they are about to drop out of school, and then to tell them that we would be able to support them for the year... the look on their faces made all the effort worth it.

The first step of this project was to conduct a private interview with each girl individually, to find out about her family background, her financially challenges, her academic performances, and the challenges she faces in regards to her education. We enter each girls' information into a database, so we can properly address each girl's particular situation. To many girls, these interviews are the first time in their lives that they have actually been asked about their hardships, and thus the interviews were often a very personal and emotional experience for both staff and student.

"I don't even know the number of times I cried during the interview period this year. I think all our staff got emotional at some point. " - Shannen, Create Change staff

Secondly, we had to organize the purchasing of all the supplies. Supply purchasing was a lot of organizing, carrying heavy boxes of books, and inventory checks. The real reward came when hundreds of students lined up outside the Creating Change office, with worn out shoes and not even so much as a pen, and left with a backpack full of all the things they need to properly learn and achieve in their education.

"If you didn't give me these supplies, I wouldn't have books to use in school. And I wouldn't have even any sandals to wear to school." - Patience, Sponsored student

Lastly, Create Change staff traveled to secondary schools and post secondary institutions to pay for school fees. The paying of school fees was extremely time consuming, but really the most important part of the project. Staff always finds it very humbling when we hand a receipt to a girl confirming that her school year has been paid for.

"Today, Creating Change has paid my fees, and I'm so happy because Monday I'm reporting!" - Dawuda, Sponsored student

Having some of these girls in the project come from almost dropping out, to entering nursing college, truly demonstrates the impact this project is making. And that is entirely because of our donors, who are making a world of difference for 300 girls in Ghana.

"To all those supporting us, through Create Change, we are very grateful, and we pray that God should continue to give them that kind of heart, so that they will help we the poor ones in life." - Sylvia, Sponsored student
