Videographer

The Videographer will create short documentary style videos on a bi-weekly/monthly basis, detailing the work of our operation in Northern Ghana. The videographer will be expected to carry out the entire process of creating the films, including storyboarding to shooting and editing. This position would suit somebody who works well without direct supervision, and is extremely self-motivated. Candidates must also be willing to learn to ride a motorbike. This is not a position for you to save money, but rather to have the opportunity to create short films that are meaningful, and to work directly with people living in extreme poverty to hear ensure their voices are heard.

Responsibilities

Film Production
• Independently travel to various rural locations to gather necessary footage as outlined in storyboards
• Conduct interviews with people from impoverished, cross-cultural backgrounds
• Attend and film all important project events (workshops, commissionings, staff in action)
• Ensure that filming is carried out in accordance with out policies, procedures and requirements
• Work with field manager to develop schedules to ensure all ongoing projects are filmed
• Obtain appropriate permission to film at different locations (schools, villages, businesses, homes)
• Solidify relationships with individuals and communities to gain trust and insight into the lives of those to be impacted by projects
• Edit footage at a professional standard (video, audio), according to storyboard
• Ensure video schedules and deadlines are met
• Train and work closely with Ghanaian assistant for translation, and camera/sound assistance

Media
• Take all media related photographs at project sites
• Write short articles related to projects for the non-profit blog and website
• Train Ghanaian staff to increase capacity on twitter, facebook, and other social media sites

Girls Diary Program
• Act as manager for the 'girls' diary program', where girls' use flip cameras to document how education has changed their lives
• Create and run workshops to teach teenage girls to use flip cameras
• Edit their footage into short videos for donors


Qualifications/Skills
• Degree or diploma in film, journalism, or other media related field
• Relevant videographer/journalistic experience
• Cross-cultural work/travel experience in a developing country preferred
• High level of competence with Adobe Final Cut Pro, Adobe Colour expected.
• Experience with broadcast quality camera and sound equipment operation preferred
• Ability to work on your own initiative and meet deadlines
• Strong sense of independence
• Capable of finding appropriate interview candidates, and suitable scenery, and obtain such footage in a respectful manner
• Willingness to sacrifice personal experience and comfort in order to acquire necessary footage
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment
• High level of patience and tolerance
• Willingness to participate and contribute as a team member
• Strong sense of personal integrity
• A strong interest in poverty alleviation/human rights
• Passion for adventure and experiencing other cultures

Only candidates with relevant education and/or experience will be considered. We strongly encourage recent graduates from film programs. The position will begin in May and will last for a period of eight months.
