POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of Communications & PR will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of communications strategies.   He or she will oversee a committee who will work together to ensure Create Change’s vision, stories and impact reach its donors.  Ensuring Create Change’s story is shared in ways that are relevant and meaningful is at the heart of this role. This role requires a good understanding of marketing and communications disciplines, and the ability to cultivate a thorough knowledge of the role Create Change is playing with local youth, the amazing work it is doing to empower women abroad, and the sustainable model of charity it is working towards.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Create Change’s mission, community and fundraising goals and initiatives
  • Lead a team to develop and execute Create Change marketing strategies and identify communications opportunities that would advance an understanding of Create Change’s mission and vision

  • Maximize opportunities and deliver consistent messaging on behalf of Create Change’s programs

  • Coordinate and oversee the execution of media relations outreach, including preparation and editing of media materials, compiling media lists, and media pitching and follow up

  • Provide oversight and feedback of Create Change’s social media channels as needed

  • Manage and direct communications calendar and signature communications pieces, including newsletters, brochures, co- thank you letters, annual reports and other stakeholder engagement pieces

  • Work with Create Change partners to tell their stories across a range of channels.

  • Contribute to and develop speeches, program announcements, presentations and various communications content for Create Change’s staff and Board members.

  • Maximize opportunities and deliver consistent messaging on behalf of Create Change’s programs

  • Liaise with key departments such as Canada Youth Programs, Ghana Programs, Events, Donor Engagement and Corporate Partnerships to ensure they have the communications materials they need to create and continue alignment, support, awareness and engagement with donors, partners, and the public
     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 - 7 years experience with a successful track record in marketing and/or communications role
  • Success leading campaigns that activate desired call to action

  • A highly organized initiator, able to deliver on time

  • Experience leading a team of marketing professionals to create and implement communications’ strategies

  • Experience working with creative professionals (graphic and print designers, video production teams, web designers) to tell stories creatively and effectively

  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and collaborative team player.  Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally

  • Strong manager with proven, effective methods of engaging and guiding employees and volunteers

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, with ability to write clearly and persuasively

  • Experience with social media marketing and/or marketing communications and plans
